Losartan Side Effects
Based on the intent of the prescription drug, it sounds like this medication can improve the lives of many. However, there are Cozaar side effects (Losartan) that need to be considered when attempting to treat blood flow. The single biggest concern is being pregnant or planning to become pregnant. You have to be heavily monitored or not even on this drug. The unborn child relies heavily on blood flow for nutrients and growth. A second concern is having severe kidney problems or an inability to urinate. Remember, that this drug affects sodium uptake in your kidneys.
Under this medication you can experience an allergic reaction such as swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue and trouble swallowing or breathing. There will be instances where you can experience anxiety, depression, increased hunger, and abdominal or stomach pain. Other side effect experiences may include bloody or cloudy urine, chills, difficult breathing, seizures, unusual bleeding or bruising and unusual tiredness or weakness. Don’t be surprised to see dark urine, muscle pain or stiffness, skin rash, difficulty with swallowing and bleeding gums. In rare instances, patients have gone into a coma due to low blood pressure.
Prescription Drug Interactions
There are medicines that you need to consider when using Losartan. These medications can cause severe side effects and your doctor should be consulted. The first group of drugs are called cardiac dysrhythmia medications which are used to treat irregular heartbeats such as Dofetilide or Ketanserin. Second group are ACE inhibitors such as Enalapril which increase the risk of kidney problems. The next group is the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen and Celecoxib also with potential kidney problems. For those who are being treated for diabetes, insulin or other diabetes medicines such as Glipizide and Metformin interfere with Losartan and may not work as intended.
Anything that can affect blood pressure has to be approved by your doctor. It’s not just prescription medications but also supplements such as potassium supplements, diuretics, steroids, narcotic pain medicines, lithium and barbituates. Those that have asthma, gout, heart problems, liver and gallbladder problems, high blood cholesterol or lipid levels and diabetes need to be carefully monitored. You can suffer consequences if you are dehydrated, have low blood volume and low blood sodium, chloride, potassium , calcium or magnesium levels.
