Erectile Dysfunction is the inability to have an erection when stimulated visually or otherwise. There are several factors that attribute to this condition; most common are age and psychological. There are instances where the maintenance drugs you take affect your ability to have an erection. Your penis is not a muscle or bone that comes alive. It is reliant on blood flow from your circulatory system to expand. As you get older, blood flow to the outer portions of your body decreases. As a result, your hands and feet get colder and joint injuries take longer to heal. Psychological factors can run the entire spectrum from stage fright to performance anxiety to lack of attraction. Fortunately, pharmaceutical companies have come to the rescue.
Three Erectile Dysfunction Drugs
There are three main drugs that currently help treat erectile dysfunction. First is the most advertised which is Viagra (sildenafil citrate) and it’s made by Pfizer. Second is Levitra (vardenafil HCl) by Bayer and lastly is Cialis (tadalafil) by Lilly. All three are used to increase blood flow to the outer portions of the body. Thus, the ability to properly generate an erection. Now, popping an ED drug does not automatically get you an erection. You still have to get excited in some form. You might have to think about your favorite movie star, your wife or significant other, but you have to get excited. Once excitement comes, you can resume your fun and when you’re finished, the erection is lost.
Side Effects
Erectile dysfunction drugs do come with side effects. It is not all fun and glory without some pain. All three drugs can’t be used if you are taking alpha blockers or nitrates for your heart. Stopping this medication for a couple of days won’t work either. If you have a weak heart or low/high blood pressure, please avoid them since these erectile dysfunction drugs increase blood flow. One might also experience chest pains, nausea and dizziness while taking it. Avoid drinking if you plan on using erectile dysfunction drugs. Alcohol will numb the effects so you will be starting from square one.
What is the best way to differentiate the three ED drugs?
Here is a basic breakdown of the three erectile dysfunction drugs. Viagra is a short term drug, its effect is best around the four to six hour mark. And in speaking to my friends anonymously, it provides the hardest erection. It is best used for a good first impression. Levitra has a lasting power of 18-24 hours depending on the dosage strength but the erections are not as strong. So if you are planning a night out, but unsure when the fun will start, then Levitra might be the way to go. Cialis was nicknamed the weekender by those who tried it. It gives you the ability to last 2-3 days but also comes with dangers such as getting aroused at inopportune occasions. They have created Cialis for daily use but it is just a lower dosage tablet.
The main warning about erectile dysfunction drugs is not to pop them like candy. Prolonged use has its side effects but what you want to avoid at all cost is an erection lasting more than 4 hours. Although this sounds like fun, it really isn’t. You will need to do one of the following three options: an injection of alpha-agonists into the penis, drain blood from the penis through a needle or surgery to create a passageway for blood to leave the penis. In addition, erections lasting 12 hours or more (I was amazed too) can create scar tissue in your penis that prevents future erections regardless of drugs. Like all things in life, use these erectile dysfunction drugs in moderation. How have they worked for you?
